Refuge On Panglao Island

Refuge On Panglao Island

We landed into Manila at 5:30am or so and made our way from the international terminal to the domestic terminal. We had done our research and knew this wasn’t an easy task and they weren’t close — so we booked the second flight out of Manila to Tagbilaran which is the city with the airport on the island of Bohol.  We made it to the terminal in enough time, but with discount airlines, they ain’t putting anyone on an earlier flight without buying a whole new ticket. So, we chilled and relaxed in the domestic terminal of the Manila airport for four hours. FUN!

Finally got on our flight to TAG and it was fast and easy (that’s what she said!). We booked an AirBnb for two nights on Panglao Island at David and Fiona’s place.  Amazing hosts. AMAZING HOUSE. We rented a room from them in the downstairs and it was perfect. The views and the house here… I can’t.

They are this great Aussie couple who moved to the island about six years ago on an outreach job from AusAid and never left. I can see why. They finished building this house mid-last year and rent out two rooms in the house through AirBnb. And it’s a true AirBnb — beautiful breakfast and all!

Tim and I decided to rent a car for 24 hours to use for dinner tonight and also to explore the island tomorrow. We headed to a local restaurant in Tagbilaran city for dinner called Gerarda’s Place. Lovely locally run business. Popular for authentic Filipino cuisine. We got four dishes — the seafood kare-kare soup, the ubi kinampay guisado (ubi is a local root purple root vegetable to Bohol), the dinakdakan pork (yummmmm — my fave) and the crispy tadyang beef (basically double friend beef… this ain’t Aussie or American beef folks).

Headed back to the house for a much needed night’s sleep.

The next day we had breakfast overlooking the ocean and jumped in our rental car to explore Bohol!
